LUCENA CITY — An elderly woman on Monday drowned in a river near her house in this city, local police said.
A police report released Tuesday said Rosa Pedernal, 71, was found lifeless, floating in a section of the Iyam River in Barangay Gulang-Gulang.

Pedernal’s home is located beside the river. She was last seen alive leaving her house around 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Police, citing information from Pedernal’s daughter, said the victim had lost vision in her left eye due to glaucoma and may have accidentally fallen into the river. INQ
