Far Eastern University continued its dominant run in the UAAP Season 87 women’s chess Tournament, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Adamson in Round 3 on Wednesday.

It was the Lady Tamaraws’ second consecutive shutout, keeping their perfect record and placing them atop the standings with four match points.

After sitting out the opening round with a bye, FEU has swept back-to-back matches.

Leading the charge were Woman National Masters Mhage Sebastian (Board 1), Vic Glysen Derotas (Board 2), and Mary Joy Tan (Board 3), each delivering flawless performances to secure full points. They defeated Angela San Luis (0.5/3), Zheileen Jain (0/2), and Robelle de Jesus (1.5/3), respectively.

Samantha Umayan also made a successful season debut for the Lady Tamaraws, scoring a decisive victory over Phoebie Arellano (1/3) on Board 4 to complete the sweep.

Meanwhile, Ateneo claimed an impressive 3-1 win over University of the Philippines, moving into second place with four match points.

Ma. Elayza Villa (Board 2) and Lexie Hernandez (Board 3) led Ateneo with victories against Precious Eve Ferrer (0/3) and Jallen Agra (1/3), respectively.

On Board 1 and Board 4, Kristine Flores and Alphecca Gonzales settled for draws against Jarel Lacambra (0.5/3) and Raiza Mae Locmayoan (0.5/2), securing the blue Eagles’ overall triumph.

La Salle also reached four match points after a narrow 2.5-1.5 win against University of Santo Tomas.

Woman National Masters Francois Magpily (Board 1) and Rinoa Sadey (Board 3) led the Lady Woodpushers with victories over Josemier Panol and Rohanisah Buto.

Arena Grandmaster Sara Olendo sealed the victory by drawing her match against Precious Yecla on Board 2.

The Female Woodpushers’ lone win came from Princess Oncita, who defeated Checy Telesforo on Board 4.
